JCD joins forces with King David High School

JCD and King David High in Manchester have joined forces to help raise £10,000 for the animal assisted therapy project at Alyn Orthopaedic Hospital in Jerusalem.

Daniel Burger, JCD’s Executive Director who visited KD High to launch the joint project, said: “JCD was one of the founding supporters of the animal assisted therapy centre at the hospital when it opened 18 months ago and we hope to raise £10,000 which will fund the project for a further year.”

Steven Mintz, head of religious studies at KD High, said: “Israel is the centre of all our activities here at the school and we are excited at the prospect of helping the hospital through our link with JCD.
“The money will be handed over to JCD by our Year 9 students and they are very much looking forward to May’s trip to Israel where they will be able to see first hand how the money they have raised is being put to such good use. It is bound to be one of the highlights of our tour.”

Brenda Hirsch, Alyn’s director of public relations, said: “We are obviously very pleased that JCD has committed to funding the animal assisted therapy project for another year. Their support is much needed and extremely welcome. Let’s hope that the children can reach their target of £10,000 or even more! We look forward to welcoming the KD High Year 9s and their teachers here in May.”

During Burger’s two-day trip to Manchester he also visited Beis Yaakov High School for Girls where JCD has recently provided funds for IT equipment for special needs children.

“It was amazing to see the new, state-of-the-art facilities and JCD is delighted to be helping integrate these children with additional requirements into the IT department,” he said.

Burger also spoke at the annual general meeting of the Manchester Jewish Federation where he stressed the “importance of the partnership” between the two organisations.
JCD currently provides the annual funding for the Fed’s JCD Family Room.
