Jewish Child's Day. Helping to make a Jewish child's day

JCD screening of Facing the Wind

JCD hosted a film showing for the Israeli charity Etgarim which raised more than £10,000.

The Everyman Theatre in Hampstead was the venue for a private screening of ‘Facing the Wind’, which tells the amazing story of Oran Almog, who lost his sight and several immediate members of his family at the age of ten after a suicide bombing in a restaurant in Haifa, but went on to be a medal-winner with the Israel team in the World Blind Sailing Championship in Sicily last year.

Etgarim’s director of resource development Orit Shulman, said: “We were delighted by the response from the UK Jewish community and would like to pay particular tribute to JCD who took the time and trouble to set up the evening which raised much-needed funds for our organisation.”

Haran Yaffe, a 26-year-old former soldier seriously injured in the Lebanon war and who was twice thought to be dead by doctors, accompanied Mrs Shulman on the journey from Israel, made the appeal.

JCD executive director Daniel Burger said: “We were happy to continue to lend our support to Etgarim.
“In fact, we have just allocated £3,000 to Etgarim to help fund an after school club for disabled children from Sderot.

“We are very happy to act as a conduit for funds for Etgarim. For further details about the valuable work they do, please contact JCD on 020 846 8804 or info@jcd.uk.com.”

*A second screening was held at the New North London Synagogue, hosted by Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg.
