Blue-ish Jewish Child's Day
Date: 01/12/2009
BLUE was the colour at schools and chedarim last Friday Nov 27) and Sunday (Nov 29) when thousands of children nationwide and even some from Gibraltar participated in the first-ever Blue-ish Jewish Child's Day. The boys and girls were delighted to be able to leave their school uniforms at home on Friday, turning up wearing blue to signify their support for JCD. As you can see from the pictures it was a fun day all round for the kids -- and the teachers got in on the act as well! Each child was asked to donate a minimum of £1, but many exceeded this figure after organising their own fund-raising events among siblings and friends.
Jewish Children of the Year Awards Ceremony
Date: 13/12/2009
More than 300 guests attended the inaugural Jewish Children of the Year Award Ceremony at the Marriott Regents Park on Sunday, December 13th 2009. It was a tremendously difficult task for the judging panel, which included JCD Chairman Joy Moss and JC Editor Stephen Pollard to decide the ultimate recipients of each award from the many worthy nominations. Dame Gail Ronson, who presented the awards and was among the judges, said: "I speak on behalf of the judging panel when I say what a privilege it was for us to learn a little about the lives of so many wonderful children and their families." The ceremony, which followed afternoon tea, was hosted by broadcaster and journalist, Nick Ferrari. Nick, who was really moved by the stories he heard and by meeting the children, said it was 'truly inspiring'.
