Jewish Child's Day. Helping to make a Jewish child's day

60 Years of JCD

JCD was founded in 1947 to give Jewish children and their families in Britain the opportunity to help children in Europe whose lives had changed dramatically in the aftermath of the Second World War.

Traditionally, Jewish Child’s Day was one day of the year - the first Sunday of Chanukah - but now JCD operates throughout the year.

Despite its growth, JCD has never lost sight of its guiding principle – to educate Jewish children in the UK on the importance of tzedakah; giving to charity within Jewish law and tradition.

JCD’s ‘family’ extends primarily in the UK, Israel and Eastern Europe, helping children who are blind, deaf, suffering from physical, learning or emotional difficulties; children who are abused, neglected, deprived or disadvantaged; children caught up in the ravages of terrorism and war; children caught in the poverty trap and children battling against severe illness or trauma. They all rely on help from JCD.

And that support comes in many different forms – wheelchairs and walking aids, educational and developmental computer equipment, therapy support and rehabilitation programmes, hearing stimulus and communication equipment, holidays, incubators, respirators, after school facilities, hot meals, home teaching for housebound children... the list is endless.
